In October 2023, Simon Little from We Sound Loud secured a fantastic contract, working on a project alongside Unit9, on the launch of the Peugeot Allure E-3008.
The brief was to build the world’s largest touch controlled AV synth! The user control ‘panel’ consisted of three stretched fabric surfaces with a total performance width of 27 metres, and utilising a LIDAR / Touch Designer based control system and back projection.
BrooksAudio’s services were brought in as part of the WSL team to provide a technical solution to work out the best way of interfacing the LIDAR with the audio system.
Bill worked with the Touch designer programmer to determine a set of custom OSC messages. These were in turn fed into bespoke Max for Live devices to control synthesis parameters of 13 different synth voices, designed by Simon. Each of which could be independently controlled by a player.
These synth channels were routed to sound objects in the high resolution d&b Soundscape system rigged behind the screen.
Peugeot’s marketing agency team were noticeably nervous on the rig days, but it was incredible to see their worries melt away when they first experienced the sound design, and how much it absolutely made the experience make sense!
And speaking personally… the end result really was fantastic fun to play and interact with!
