What have you been up to Bill?
It’s been a while since the last blog update, and things have changed somewhat in that time! Aside from the return to normality post pandemic, I have been working more on consultancy work. This involved advising a large music industry AVLM group and working on trend analysis, digitisation and data driven innovation. This might sound like management speak, but it’s the best way to summarise the goals of the project.
In real terms, this involves lots of experimentation with content creation for a variety of spatial audio protocols, and working out how data can form an integral part in generative sound design to create new and exciting products for the new society (as gen Z grow up and are integrated).
It’s been fascinating working more on this side of the audio industry.
What else?
In the meantime I’ve built my Dolby Atmos enabled studio and been refining my ProTools skills and general ability to mix for this format, as we all know this is a huge buzz word in the industry now, and it’s nice to be a little ahead of the curve in getting set up and skilled up for this new wave.
The PrePosition plugin I created (alongside FLIXE) to allow electronic musicians to use d&b audiotechnik’s Soundscape more easily has been a real success this year, and actually (slightly surprisingly) has found it’s way into Front of House on several cool Soundscape shows, like the pictured 5G festival in Brighton (where musicians in two separate cities played together live with imperceivable latency) and the Groove Armada farewell tour.
I’m exploring some really interesting options to expand the education and teaching over the course of the next year, and hope to announce some collaborations with multiple universities before too long. The Youtube channel has been a little neglected, but I have plans for some great content to go on there soon – watch this space.
